Both Yarmouth school bonds on the November ballot are a necessary and prudent investment in our future, for our children and our town.

In 2009, our student population was about 1,400. This year, enrollment on the first day of school was 1,660 – an increase of nearly 20 percent in less than 10 years.

This trend is going to continue. Two different consulting firms that specialize in assessing population changes studied the demographics for Yarmouth. Both conservatively estimate that by 2027 we will have approximately 1,970 school-age children in our district, another increase of nearly 20 percent in less than 10 years.

The school buildings we have cannot handle our enrollment now, never mind our enrollment in the future. Question 1 and Question 2 on the town ballot will address this issue and, additionally, make much-needed improvements to security in each of our four schools.

Both bonds deserve your full support.
