This past January, I spent the day in Augusta learning about our state Legislature. Rep. Janice Cooper, D-Yarmouth, immediately approached me when she learned that I am a student at Yarmouth High School. Cooper spoke about her six years in the Legislature, and tough issues she has taken on. She has not been afraid to work on gun control laws to protect me and all Maine students. This is not a new commitment; she has been fighting for the safety of students for many years, and we need someone with this kind of courage and record. She believes students should not be afraid to go to school. As a high school junior who will vote for the first time this year, I know that Cooper is dedicated to her constituents both through her courageous actions, as well personally, teaching me more about our state government.
