Dick is a thoughtful listener. He has even-keeled judgment. As chairman of the Falmouth School Board, what most impressed me about Dick was how attentively he listened to all sides of the consolidation discussion, made each person feel that their opinions mattered and were valued, did research on his own and in a thoughtful, collaborative manner conveyed his thoughts without partisan politics or political maneuvering. He is upbeat and positive, his glass is half full.
As one of the few independents who have served in the Legislature, Dick has managed to sidestep the distasteful aspects of party politics. He works on issues, rather than partisan positioning, and he does it with a very positive and collaborative work style. I have found him to be very reasonable.
