Even though I live in Wildwood, I believe that shorefront should be open to all. However, the more I learn about the Payson property proposal, the more doubts I have. The property is very tidal, and therefore attractive to an array of birds, clams, horseshoe crabs and various vegetation. Questions of how the existing conservation easement would be enforced on a public beach are still unanswered.

As a senior citizen, another major concern for me is the likelihood that the cost of a bond will necessitate higher taxes, or at best make tax relief for seniors impossible.

I haven’t abandoned my ideals. Cumberland can and should have shorefront access. But why rush into a damaging and over-priced plan, when there are options that would be more accessible and at lower prices?
