As a Cumberland resident, and a member of Atlantic Regional Federal Credit Union, I am urging the voters in my town to vote say “yes” on Question 1 on June 9.

This organization is a small, local, non-profit financial institution. The credit union has met with the citizens of our town, listened carefully to what they want and designed a very fitting building to house their next branch. They will be a great neighbor to all of us. This organization will fit into our town. It poses no threat to the neighborhood. They are a friendly credit union offering me and many other members excellent service.

When I go into the branch in Freeport, which is the closest to me now, everyone knows my name and greets me with a smile. I am able to do my banking locally and have peace of mind that they care about my savings and loans. I have my mortgage with Atlantic Regional, several CDs and other accounts. I trust them and I know they care about making sure my money is safe.

Cumberland doesn’t have a financial institution or a bank. But we have an opportunity to have one which wants to serve the people of Cumberland County. I know them to be an organization that adds to the tax base, volunteers in the community and is supportive of local events. Cumberland’s Town Council voted to welcome this organization into our town. I hope everyone else will too!
