I would like to thank the town of Cape Elizabeth and Central Maine Power Co. for removing the trees and overgrowth along Sawyer Street between Eastman and Fickett streets last week. High winds consistently uproot trees and break branches near the utility lines, causing extended power outages to the households in this area. I was without electricity, telephone, etc., for 52 hours in April 2006, 66 hours in December 2008 and 87 hours in February 2010. Many of my neighbors have purchased generators to keep their houses warm and their pipes from freezing.

I encourage the municipalities and utility companies to continue their vigilance to remove any growth that threatens these lines.
