Summerfest 2014 in Scarborough was a great event. We recently moved to Maine and this was our first experience. We had a great time and especially enjoyed the fireworks.

I did experience one very negative aspect: the guy selling “novelty” smoking cigarettes to kids. I was appalled and spoke to the vendor, who could care less. He stated “I have no control of what the kids buy.” I responded by saying “you do – don’t sell them.” I then brought it to the attention of event management, who was understanding and spoke to the vendor. He got about the same result. This vendor was also selling “toy” black machine guns that looked too real. Neither of these belong at a fundraising event, especially with kids.

I hope the event staff can work with these vendors to better screen what is being sold to our children.
