All freshmen at Yarmouth High School work on a project to contribute something toward solving hunger. We call this the Power of One project. Our adviser group decided to help contribute to an organization that helps with multiple issues, Heifer International. Heifer allows you to donate money wherever it is needed most or donate toward a specific project ranging from things like giving a family a flock of chicks to biogas stoves for a village, to native tree seedling to promote sustainable living. As an adviser group, we created a website that provides more information on our goals and what we find so important about the work that Heifer does. We then shared our site with friends and family and asked them to consider donating. As of today, our site has generated $1,380 in donations for Heifer International. We would like to thank those in the community as well as friends and family beyond the area for supporting not only our project, but the rest of the freshman class work. Power of One shows not just how individuals can make a difference but how when we work together a community can do even more.
