I would like to express enormous gratitude to your readers for their support of The Salvation Army’s 2009 Annual Christmas Kettle Campaign.

This year the greater Portland community generously increased their support of the Christmas Kettle Campaign. Not only was our goal met, but it was exceeded by more than $24,000. This year’s Kettle Campaign raised a record $135,000 for the Portland Corps, making it possible for us to assist increasing numbers of needy families in our community during the holiday season and throughout the new year.

Thank you to all who contributed; your support made a positive impact on those less fortunate than you.

Our thanks also to The Forecaster for running the human interest story on Greater Portland’s Salvation Army’s Portland Corps Advisory Board member, Bob Traill, in your Christmas week edition. The article helped raise awareness of our needs during the holiday season.

God bless you and a very Happy New Year.

Capt. Terry L. Shaffer
Corps Officer, Salvation Army
Portland
