On a fine morning in June, we came together as a community, decked out in hairnets and gloves, to help put an end to hunger. With one in four Maine kids going hungry, we needed to take action. Thanks to the more than 125 friends and neighbors, including a couple dozen very enthusiastic kids, just over 7,000 nutritious rice ’n’ beans meals were packed and sent to the Scarborough Food Pantry for our neighbors. The dry ingredients and vitamins are scooped by hand (many hands!) and then weighed and sealed in a plastic bag that includes cooking instructions.
Project GRACE thanks all the Amazing Raise for GRACE participants, our generous sponsors, as well as our partners and volunteers who made our first-ever Amazing Raise for GRACE a success. A special thanks as well to the many willing hands who cheerfully pitched in before and after to set up and clean up.
As a result of the Amazing Raise, Project GRACE can purchase farm shares for fresh veggies for the Scarborough Food Pantry and Edgewood group home, provide the food pantry with nutritious meals of hearty beans and rice; support school and community nutrition programs; and give our neighbors a helping hand when it’s needed most. We can, because of our neighbors. Thank you.
