“Entitlements.” It’s a word you hear during an election year. Some candidates feel “entitled” to run because of name or position. Others, such as Democrat Denise Tepler, candidate in Topsham’s House District 54, earn the privilege to represent us the old-fashioned way: through hard work and a long history of civic involvement.

Denise has logged countless hours serving and leading the School Administrative District 75 board and town Finance Committee. My neighbors and I know personally how Denise worked for the community when, two years ago, she supported our efforts to ensure that quick-response rescue squad service was available around the clock, not just during the day.

Serving the community requires patience, a knowledge of the issues, a temperament for working well with others, and dedication. Denise has all these qualities and has earned her stripes to represent us in Augusta.
