Democrats have the opportunity to select a highly qualified, progressive woman to be Cumberland County’s next District Attorney. Frayla Tarpinian of Windham is a progressive Democrat committed to implementing criminal justice reforms such as restorative justice, and diverting individuals who need treatment into treatment programs instead of jail. In addition, she has the experience to effectively implement these reforms. She currently serves as an assistant D.A. in Kennebec County, where she heads the unit that prosecutes sexual assault, domestic violence and elder abuse crimes. She is committed to making sure dangerously criminal individuals end up behind bars where they can no longer prey on the elderly and intimate partners they’ve abused. Another reason I support Tarpinian is her commitment to diversity in the D.A.’s office. It is important that the staff in that office reflect the growing diversity of our county. I encourage Cumberland County Democrats to vote June 12 for Frayla Tarpinian.
