During the North Yarmouth public hearing, residents heard from a wide range of speakers – grandparents, School Administrative District 51 students, retirees, real estate brokers, etc. It was apparent that the majority of taxpayers in attendance support voting no on the referendum to withdraw from SAD51. That does not mean the outcome is certain. This is not an exploratory process. It is a process requiring North Yarmouth to negotiate a final agreement to withdraw. There are no steps in the process where the withdrawing community may halt the process. There is no changing our mind. A plan must go to a vote and must be approved by two-thirds of the voters. The $100,000 expense to develop the plan will be wasted if the plan is defeated by the voters. Please continue to speak with our friends and neighbors. Stop the withdrawal process. Vote no at the polls on Nov. 6.
