When we started, the South Portland Food Cupboard never imagined we would have so many visitors. Just in February, we had a 36 percent increase over last February; many visitors had lost their jobs.

The Mill Creek Hannaford has recently donated $1,000. It seems they sold the most “Fund a Feast” boxes in their region during the holidays and chose to donate the monetary award to us.

A very special group of students at Mahoney Middle School, under the guidance of their teacher, Jeff Kozaka, participate each year in the Jumpstart our Youth program. This is a statewide program where students are given a $1,000 grant to donate to a worthy non-profit of their choice. The Cupboard has participated twice, and this year we were awarded the $1,000 grant. We are extremely honored that we were chosen.

We conduct our food cupboard/pantry in the basement of St. John the Evangelist Church, Maine Street, South Portland, every Thursday morning from 8:30 to 11:30.
