I urge all voters in South Portland to vote for the Waterfront Protection Ordinance on Nov. 5, to protect the future of our community and the health of our families.

Opponents claim there are no plans to reverse flow and bring tar sands oil to South Portland, but the facts show otherwise. An existing state permit allows construction of the “Pipeline Reversal Project” to begin, including two 70-foot stacks on the pier near Bug Light Park.

What is the value of a dollar or great schools without clean water or clean air? Your vote for the Waterfront Protection Ordinance allows future generations to live healthy, productive lives in our beautiful, scenic community.

Your vote counts. Cast your vote for the Waterfront Protection Ordinance.

Patti Smith, city councilor
South Portland
