On behalf of the South Portland Dog Owners Group I would like to thank the outpouring of support we have experienced in the past year. Thank you to everyone who has worked as a volunteer with Share Willard Beach and SoPoDOG to share public space.
The dog ban we face now isn’t only about dogs, it is about access to our shared waterfront and public space. In Maine we have private beaches already, we have places where dogs are not allowed and luckily we have beaches where everyone shares the beach, including people, horses and dogs.
There can be a balance of users of public space – the lack of issues and complaints in the past year has shown that to be true. Please consider the restrictions this would place on your friends and neighbors and vote against the ordinance on the city ballot.
