At the close of the Market Place portion of the Harvest on the Harbor in Portland, several members of the South Portland/Cape Elizabeth Rotary Club assisted the South Portland Food Cupboard in collecting the excess food items donated by the various food vendors. This was the second year in a row that the Cupboard was given this opportunity and the second year that Rotary has helped.

For the Cupboard, the fact that no food was wasted, is worth the time and effort. There is a greater need for supplemental food at this time; our Cupboard is seeing a 60 percent increase in families coming to us for help. So, we thank the Rotary men and women (whose motto is “Service above Self”), the food vendors, and the Convention & Visitors Bureau of Greater Portland for helping the Cupboard and seeing that no excess food was thrown away.
