The unfolding ecological disaster in the Gulf of Mexico has shown us the blatant dangers of offshore drilling. With no easy way to clean up spills, offshore drilling is too risky to pursue; even with one accident we have shaken the economy of the south and the delicate ecosystem. Tourism to Florida has been affected, along with the seafood industry. Fishermen to small restaurant owners are feeling the squeeze put on by this disaster.
We can prevent this disaster from happening again by investing in more sustainable energy and cutting our dependence on oil. A new energy bill has been introduced that would revitalize our economy, cut down on pollution and the need to expand offshore drilling. Please contact Sens. Olympia Snowe and Susan Collins and tell them you support the new energy bill.
