I endorse Rubin Segal, Democratic primary candidate for Cumberland County probate judge. Rubin is a kind and gentle soul who is well suited to the job of probate judge.
His experience includes representing patients contesting their involuntary commitment to mental-health institutions, and parents contesting protective state custody of their children. He knows the pain that families and individuals endure: losing their children to state custody or losing their freedom to state commitment. He recognizes the delicate balance between individual rights and public interest; a balance that applies in guardianship proceedings and adoption proceedings in probate court.
Rubin refers to the probate court as “the peoples’ court.” When ordinary people encounter him as probate judge, they will recognize him as one of their own: a gentle man with quiet wisdom. He will honor their dignity as he resolves their conflicts.
