Letter: Scarborough spending is out of control
As I watch all the towns in Cumberland County increase their spending over last year, I was appalled to see my town, Scarborough, lead the pack with a proposed double-digit increase in spending. Current proposals from our town’s departments is 10.86 percent. This is not a category you want to be No. 1 in, as households throughout the community struggle to get by. Governments are stripping our ability to be charitable; it starts with the towns.
Looks like it didn’t take long for Town Manager Tom Hall to lose his grip on managing a $60 million budget. A town that ran well on $57 million just five years ago now requires $71.6 million? Where will we be in 2018? Do I hear $90 million?
