The Scarborough Board of Education election has incredible significance. Voters will often make their ballot decisions along party lines; after all, this is why we have party affiliations. However, this election is an example of how dangerous it will be if individuals approach their School Board votes in this fashion.
If voters staunchly embrace partisanship, they will risk endorsing “business as usual” in our School Department. If residents believe change is necessary and that the Board of Education needs diversity, accountability, and transparency, then please pay attention to where candidates stand on the issues. Never before has it been more important to elect individuals from diverse connections and circles.
Scarborough deserves a School Board of independent and collaborative thinkers in order to rebuild and restore the community’s trust. Please join me in this nonpartisan mindset and endorse candidates who support new vision and new leadership, not political parties.
