The Friends of the Scarborough Library would like to thank the many dedicated volunteers and book sale patrons who helped make this year’s book sale a success. Hundreds came to the library looking for the perfect summer read. With more than 20,000 donated books, puzzles, and audio-visual titles to choose from, readers of all ages found at least one book by their favorite author. These funds help support the library in various ways, including adding to the e-book collection, funding the children’s summer reading program, and supporting free passes to Maine cultural institutions. Once again, unsold items were donated to a variety of non-profit organizations, including Preble Street Resource Center, the Maine Veterans Home, Scarborough Historical Society and Opportunity Alliance. The remaining books were donated to Goodwill, which cordially picked them up for us.

We appreciate the generous support received from our corporate sponsors, who donate critical supplies that we use before and during the sale. Finally, Scarborough Public Works Department is to be highly commended, as they provide storage space for books throughout the year and transport books to the library before the sale. The department’s efforts are crucial to our success and we thank everyone there for their help.

Plans for next year are under way. Donated books can be dropped off in the library foyer starting this July. Again, your donated books and purchases at the sale were appreciated. They signal your strong support of the library as well as the Friends.
