On behalf of the Friends of the Scarborough Library, I would like to thank the many, many members of the community who helped make our annual book sale the most successful ever. The Friends raised over $13,000 during the sale, and we are very grateful for the generosity of people who donated books for sale and purchased books to read.

The proceeds of the book sale enable us to fund the purchase of books for the library’s adult and children’s collections. We also hold programs that are free and open to the public. This past winter, over 200 children enjoyed the Frogtown Mountain Puppeteers’ production of “The Legend of the Banana Kid.” We are now preparing to host writer Colin Woodard, author of The Lobster Coast, for a Scarborough Reads program on Sept. 26.

The Friends appreciate the generous help of our corporate sponsors. I also want to add a very special thanks to the Scarborough Public Works Department, where we store and sort books throughout the year. SPW not only supplies us with space to do so, but delivers the books to the library for the actual sale.
