I feel sorry for the majority of the residents of Scarborough, as well as our visitors to this town that abounds with beautiful beaches. The newest leash law seems to have handed the town beaches to the dogs, particularly after Labor Day, which is a favorite time for retired people or parents with young children to enjoy a day at the beach without the crowds or the heat of July or August. Now these people have two hours a day to relax at the ocean without the threat of dogs running wild all over the sand, although by the time their two hours comes around, the beach will be littered with dog poo. I don’t know how these dogs did it, but they seem to have majority rule. They have taken over the beaches during one of the nicest months of summer, as well as the entire fall, winter, and spring. Where I live, this would be the equivalent to having dogs run all over the ski trails that we prize so dearly in Western Maine and New Hampshire.
