The communities of Cumberland and North Yarmouth are in need of a performing arts center. We are fortunate to have an excellent, successful music program that cultivates talent from middle school through high school. The Greely High School Jazz Band swept the Maine State Jazz Festival last spring in every category. Music is not an extracurricular program, but an integral part of the curriculum for many students, and they have earned a place to perform here in their own community. They travel all over the state and perform in clean, climate-controlled facilities, but then come home to perform in the small, poorly ventilated high school cafeteria or in an echoing, uncomfortable gymnasium. Please vote for a place for them, and all of the performing arts, to display their talents in a facility where the entire community can enjoy them.
