Falmouth should embrace the future and support the Route 1 proposal. Voting “no” is false economy and false history. Our investment in Route 1 will enhance property values and our commercial tax base with no increase in taxes because the funds come from the TIF account. By law, those funds can only be used for Route 1 improvements. Falmouth’s past efforts on Route 1 have been successful. Compare Route 1 now with what it looked like 20 years ago. That didn’t just happen, it was planned and promoted. It will never be a traditional village, but will evolve as a commercial, social, cultural and athletic center where people drive, walk and bike to a wide range of activities. Our Route 1 is and will be a balance of pragmatism, idealism, individuality and community and it will be an economic engine. But we need to be proactive.
