A Jan. 12 article on the Brunswick School Board meeting that concerned potential partners for school district consolidation reported that Regional School Unit 1 was one of the districts that had expressed interest in pursuing such a discussion. The response from RSU 1 to the Brunswick School Department did not state that the RSU has an interest in pursuing discussions leading to consolidation with that district. However, we did express a willingness to discuss opportunities for cooperation on things such as joint purchasing agreements and shared programming that could benefit our students and result in cost efficiencies for taxpayers in our district.

The Board of Directors of RSU 1 would not advance an agenda that includes restructuring the governance of the district without extensive discussions with our participating communities.
