Thank you to those of you who supported the ranked-choice voting referendum. Prior to learning about this effort, I would probably have qualified as a disenchanted voter, growing increasingly cynical with each election. But this year I volunteered to help get signatures for RVC, and I’m so glad I did. We can make our voting process more accurately reflect our preferences. RCV allows third-party candidates to function as real candidates rather than spoilers. RCV reduces mudslinging between candidates and may even encourage an informed debate of ideas rather than the strident bullying we get now. If a candidate can’t get your first vote, he or she still can’t afford to lose your second-choice vote by trashing your first-choice candidate. Vote yes for RCV in 2016.
