I urge Yarmouth voters to cast their vote on June 8 for Patricia Ramsay for trustee of the Yarmouth Water District.

The Water District is a little scrutinized public-private entity that is responsible for providing clean water to our community. These services come at considerable cost to rate-payers, and should be spent wisely. As the protector of one of our most important, natural resources, the district also has a responsibility to act as a careful environmental steward in everything it does.

Pat, a long-time resident and highly accomplished volunteer in many Yarmouth public affairs, will bring the experience and fresh outlook that will ensure that these goals are met. She wants to expand public participation by, for example, creating a Water District website and using other modern means of communicating information to and from the public. She will seek resources from Maine agencies, such as Efficiency Maine, that provide grants and invaluable environmental expertise at no cost to the community. As the Water District moves forward in the planning and construction of its large new office building in Yarmouth, shouldn’t it be leading the way on environmental matters? Shouldn’t our rates be spent in a way that serves as a model for other public projects?

A vote for Pat Ramsay is a vote for smart spending and public participation.
