I take issue with Gary Crosby’s insistence that the 1,000 signatures on the referendum petitions to ban dogs from Willard Beach in South Portland represents 1,000 people supporting the referendum.

I was approached several times at the post office to sign the petition. The various women were evasive about what the petition was for: ” …Oh, just a citizen’s referendum.” When pressed, they would suggest it was for the citizens of South Portland to have the opportunity to vote their wishes for whether dogs should be allowed on the beach.

Mr. Crosby, 1,000 “vote your wishes” is not 1,000 votes supporting the dog ban. If you will spin the facts on this very important issue, what will you spin if you become a city councilor?
