I am very excited about the proposal for a Falmouth “Town Center” – a new community center, expanded library and Town Hall on the site of the soon to be vacated elementary schools. I have three young children who are very excited by this possibility as well. I have many friends who feel the same way, and have spoken with countless families who are frustrated by the lack of public gathering places in Falmouth.

This proposal would be a step in revitalizing our town and encouraging residents to spend locally. The site is a location that offers so much: proximity to the Route 1 shopping and dining corridor, Ocean View, public transportation and sidewalks.

Our library is serving increasing residents’ needs and desperately needs more space. I am struck by the lack of space for young adults in the current building. As my kids get older, places to go and gather with peers only become more important. In this age of virtual connection, a place for real, multi-generational interaction is a refreshing and inspiring option.

We live in the Flats area, and what it boils down to for us is when we leave our neighborhood to spend our time and money, are we making a right turn toward Portland or a left turn into Falmouth? I respect the fiscal prudence of Falmouth and that we have one of the lowest tax rates in the area. This proposal is a lot of gain for our dollars and I would like to see it on the ballot .
