As Election Day on June 8 draws near, I would like to take a moment to thank the Falmouth parents, teachers, booster groups and taxpayers who joined us for the five-month process of meetings and workshops devoted entirely to the 2011 budget. Superintendent Barbara Powers, administrators and the entire School Board entered the school year committed to a budget process that started early, was fully transparent, and welcomed public input. The months of workshops were well attended and gave us quality feedback regarding funding priorities for our district.

The proposed budget before taxpayers reflects this process and balances the needs of our school system with the financial realities of reduced state aid and a stagnant economy. Built into this budget is acknowledgement of opportunities for continued cooperative work both within our town and surrounding school districts. Please visit our website at falmouthschools.org to review the complete budget and workshop documents as well as responses to recent “Frequently Asked Questions,” and make an informed decision. We have much to be proud of in this budget as we continue to offer an excellent quality education to the children of Falmouth.
