I want to address a comment from Councilor Ron Ahlquist that was directed at my remarks about the Higgins Beach Ad-Hoc Parking Committee at the Scarborough Town Council Meeting on Dec. 1.

My statements about the inadequate representation of the town and the lack of option identification/evaluation came from reading all the committee minutes and my experience in evaluating processes. My request that this current report be rejected and a more inclusive group be convened to thoroughly study all available options in order to bring a more comprehensive and reasoned set of proposals to the town was made not because I did not agree with all the proposals in the report, but because the committee did not perform their fiduciary duty in looking at all available options and performing an analysis and evaluation of said options. All of us need to separate the evaluation of whether or not a process was performed appropriately from agreement or disagreement with an end result. I encourage Scarborough citizens to request the committee meeting minutes from the Town Clerk to decide for themselves if this is the case.

Finally, kudos to the Town Council for voting to go beyond the normal meeting time limits to allow every citizen who wanted to speak on the issues that night to be heard.
