The town of Cumberland should be very proud. I have been a member of Val Halla golf course since 1974 and have never seen it in such great condition. The town has made tremendous improvements over the past few years which has made it one of the best courses in the area. Brian Bickford has done an outstanding job managing Val Halla over the past few years. He is to be commended for making the facility an enjoyable place to play golf and a great social experience for all levels of golfers and their guests. Toby, the greens superintendent, is to be congratulated on bringing the course around to be in such great condition.

Brian and his staff have also done a wonderful job with the junior programs that have attracted over 200 children to their clinics and tournaments this past summer. There is no better place to grow up with a sport than at a golf course and these programs provide a great “feeder system” for local area high school golf teams. The staff at Val Halla, including the Viking Grill, are all very friendly and professional and always willing to help make your visit very enjoyable.

Town Manager Bill Shane and the Town Council are to be congratulated on preserving and improving such a valuable and important town asset. The town of Cumberland should be very proud of how well Val Halla is operated and the enjoyment it provides to so many of us who take advantage of this great facility.
