I would like to applaud City Councilors John Anton and David Marshall for not voting in favor another TIF for big businesses on Portland’s waterfront.

The concept of giving wealthy investors tax breaks to build their empires, while the rest of us work hard and finance ourselves, is indeed corporate welfare. We all, especially, those of us paying high property taxes in Portland, would love a TIF – send them our way. I’m sure with the taxpayers’ help some of us could start some nice little businesses on Portland’s waterfront.
