Like many communities in the United States, Falmouth has struggled with consequences of a high prevalence of opioid addiction. Multiple efforts will be required to deal with this epidemic, and I am very grateful for state Rep. Teresa Pierce’s leadership at the state Legislature level in this arena. It is one of the many examples of her insight and willingness to craft meaningful legislation while representing House District 44.

As a practicing surgeon, and a member of the MaineHealth work group to implement LD 1646 (the Maine law strengthening the controlled substances prescription monitoring program), I recognize the value of her support and leadership. In addition to endorsing LD 1646, Pierce co-sponsored LD1488, which sets up an innovative pilot program for law enforcement to assist low-level offenders with support services (including mental health services) and community-based treatment.

Please join me in supporting Pierce in her re-election bid in November.
