I object to the sign with flashing lights on Broadway in South Portland, congratulating people for blocking the Waterfront Protection Ordinance. It’s like rubbing salt in the wounds of the loser. In the long run, it will be the city that’s the loser if tar sand oil comes to South Portland.

From the difference in the vote, no one can say that there is a mandate to promote the expansion of oil interests in this city. I believe that the future of this area will be based on boating, recreation, and fishing, not on the polluting effects of oil.
