North Yarmouth has experienced 2 1/2 years of an emotional roller coaster. We have failed to come together in using town assets to address Wescustogo, improve the municipal office and preserve the gymnasium facility for community activities.

On June 14 residents will be asked to vote on the Board of Selectmen’s proposal to sell 10 acres of town property for a 32-lot development, the rebuilding of Wescustogo and renovation of the gym. While this proposal received few ringing endorsements during the public hearings held in March, numerous reservations and concerns were clearly articulated.

If there is anything we have learned from this process it should be that we are not together. From my perspective our town needs to become a community long before it is asked to vote on a proposal that received very few ringing endorsements at the public hearings.
