Cathy Nichols, the Republican candidate for state Senate District 25, is firmly opposed to the Universal Health Care initiative that, if passed, would add a 3.8 percent tax on family incomes above $128,400. Meanwhile, her opponent has not taken a position, yet all four gubernatorial candidates strongly oppose this citizen initiative.

Cathy Nichols went on the record and fearlessly opposed this ill-conceived tax proposal from its inception. It would tax family incomes (not just individual incomes) that exceed $128,400.

If passed, it would not only provide free in-home health care to needy Maine residents, but also to nonresidents, regardless of income. Therefore, our hard- earned tax dollars would be paying for the health care needs of wealthy out-of-state residents.

I am pleased to support Cathy Nichols, who opposes this poorly conceived tax proposal that has been funded by out-of-state interests. She deserves our vote.
