“Life has a way of confusing us, Blessing, and bruising us …”
We’ve all been where Tevye is in “Fiddler on the Roof” – despite our best efforts, sometimes unpleasantly surprised by the hand life deals us. And the Falmouth Memorial Library trustees were certainly dealt a bruising hand when the overheated building market in southern Maine drove the estimated cost for the library expansion up $2 million.
But like Tevye, the trustees faced the problem head on. The market isn’t going to change. The expansion is still needed. Waiting will only further increase costs. So the trustees tightened their figurative belts, restarted the fundraising effort, and asked the town for help.
The library is one of the greatest blessings in our communal lives: a source of endless entertainment, enlightenment, and fellowship. Falmouth needs and deserves this expansion now. Please join us in voting yes for the library bond on Nov. 6.
