Rep. Janice Cooper, D-Yarmouth, has proved to be an effective legislator during her three terms representing District 47. She has learned how to get things done. She has successfully pushed for more state revenue for local education to reduce local property taxes. She is a strong advocate for the environment, while keeping in mind, for example, the needs of our fishermen. She is hard working and caring.

Janice has the backing and all the resources behind her as a Democrat, but is independent in her thinking. She is a known entity. We know what she stands for. We need more women in our Legislature, not fewer. I suggest that her opponent throw his weight behind Janice now, and then he could run for representative in two years when Janice is termed out.

I plan to vote to re-elect Janice Cooper to the Maine House of Representatives. I urge other residents in our district to vote for Janice, too.
