We’re proud that the State House recently enacted the Maine Buy American Act. The bill encourages the state of Maine to purchase American-made products whenever possible. It also includes safeguards to give the state flexibility in buying things it needs, like items for safety or emergencies.

This gives Maine companies a reason to stay in Maine. By promoting American manufacturing, we encourage economic growth, expand the tax base and keep good jobs for our workers.

According to a study by the University of Massachusetts at Amherst, American manufacturing jobs could increase by 33 percent by maximizing domestic content in infrastructure investments. These are jobs that could employ many of the 6.8 percent of Mainers who are currently without work.

We look forward to seeing this measure help our communities, our state and our country.
