I am a Realtor in North Yarmouth. My husband and I moved to this community many years ago because we loved the town’s rural character and, more importantly, it boasted a fabulous school district.

Today’s home buyers have not changed much since then. According to the 2010 National Association of Realtors “Profile of Home Buyers and Sellers,” 25  percent of home buyers named school quality as their No. 1 deciding factor in their home purchase.

In the last month, I have had several families quit searches for homes in North Yarmouth due to the uncertainty of where our children are going to attend school. This referendum to withdraw is already having negative impacts on our property values, our business opportunities and worst of all, our kids. We cannot afford to be irresponsible with the future of North Yarmouth. For our community, Vote no on Nov. 6 to withdraw from School Administrative District 51.
