We have been homeowners in South Portland for 2 1/2 years. We visited many coastal communities before deciding the city offered both the sense of community and recreational areas that we wanted our children to experience. We are pleased to have met many friendly residents and enjoy patronizing the local establishments. In short, we feel very at home.

Many of the friendships we’ve developed are a result of our weekend morning visits with our children to Willard Beach. The kids have always been interested in dogs and the time spent on the beach allowed them to determine the type of dog they wanted as a pet and understand the effort needed to help train and care for a dog. In addition, it allowed them to develop warm relationships with a number of dog owners. About a year ago our family finally got a small dog that joins us on our walks. Our children still wake up early each weekend morning to visit their friends on the beach. Their association with the people and dogs at Willard Beach is a warm and positive addition to their childhood.

The chance to visit with our new friends and walk our dogs on Willard Beach is a unique and special part of this community. Please do not destroy this good thing; vote against the ordinance to ban dogs from Willard Beach.
