I’m supporting Democrat Theo Kalikow in the House District 29 contest because of her track record in education, environmental protection and her support for progressive values.

Her opponent, Rep. Karen Vachon, R-Scarborough, stopped by with campaign literature highlighting a few initiatives I support, but I cannot support her candidacy. She received low scores on legislative report cards from Maine Conservation Voters, Maine Women’s Lobby and Maine People’s Alliance, while the American Conservative Union gave her a perfect score. Karen has not been representing my views in Augusta.

While Theo is new to politics, we can review her impressive leadership in education, including 18 years as president of UMaine-Farmington. She’s received awards for work on women’s issues as well as a Green Building Leadership Award. In this election, she is endorsed by Maine Conservation Voters, Maine Education Association and the Maine People’s Alliance. I’ll be voting for Theo Kalikow in November.
