My name is Philip Jones and I’m running for the School Committee in Yarmouth. My wife, children and I moved here from New York 3 1/2 years ago, and a major factor in our choosing Yarmouth was the quality of the schools. We were impressed by the academic excellence that was a priority, but equally importantly were swayed by the intimate, student-centric approach. We have no doubts that we made the right decision.

The board, superintendent and administration care deeply and are smart, competent and take their responsibilities seriously. There are fabulous teachers, great facilities and an involved parent body. However there are real challenges and we can’t be complacent. We have to maintain (and even improve) our schools, but federal and state funding is being cut and we must be thoughtful and imaginative in how we move forward. We can’t afford to compromise the quality of our students’ experience.
