A few years ago, Wyman Station represented $300 million in property tax value to Yarmouth, or 40 percent of the local tax base. Today it contributes $52 million, or 8 percent. That’s a quarter billion dollars gone, the equivalent of 1,000 homes assessed at $250,000 each, in little more than a decade.

It could get worse. As a town councilor in Yarmouth, I’ve been fighting for the past five years to bring NextEra to the table with a plan that makes sense not just for shareholders, but for the community we live in.

Some degree of choice will be ours, eventually. I hope when that day comes, I will be in a position to use my institutional memory to replace Wyman Station with something residents of Casco Bay communities can benefit from and enjoy. For a full accounting of my plan, visit my website, Steve Woods For State Senate.
