I would like to set the record straight in response to two letters from supporters of Gary Foster in House District 109. I started an Economic Development and Sustainability Committee along with four members of our community to help our small businesses survive the worst economic downturn our country has seen since the Depression. During my tenure on the Board of Selectmen, we decreased our town budget this year and kept it flat in the previous two years. I supported the school budget this year because we had cut 18 teacher positions and further reductions were, in my opinion, unreasonable. I worked on the SAD 51-Falmouth School Consolidation Committee, where we all worked diligently on cutting cost and reaching compromise. In June, after North Yarmouth’s Town Meeting, a reporter called me and asked for a report on the meeting. He said he tried to reach other board members but was unable. I answered his questions with fact. The chairman of the Board of Selectmen publicly criticized me for speaking to the press, not for violating the code of conduct. He subsequently publicly apologized for his comments.

I have worked almost every month with the Gray American Legion Auxiliary for over two years. Supporting these wonderful women who work to support our veterans, active-duty troops and their families is an honor. I will continue to help serve at the American Legion, win or lose, because that is who I am.
