I am writing to endorse David Hillman for the Cape Elizabeth School Board. David has worked with state representatives to improve the financial treatment of our schools. He founded a citizen’s group that lobbied against school consolidation for Cape; as a result, we were one of only three schools statewide to receive a consolidation exemption. David is familiar with state government and would work actively and effectively for fair and wise school laws and policy.

Our schools receive disproportionately low funding from the state – we shouldered a disproportionate amount of the state budget cut for 2008 and 2009. Once David is elected, he will begin to lobby at the state level to change this situation. Instead of simply accepting the state rules, he will advocate on our behalf. People may not realize how important it is that our School Board members work on both the local and state level to protect our school funding, a skill that will be crucial in the coming years.
