I am writing to share my enthusiasm for the proposed performing arts center in SAD 51. Aside from being an extraordinary benefit for our students, if managed and marketed properly, it could be an important resource for our district and beyond. I view the PAC as a community-wide asset. It is a creative amenity we can offer alongside the outstanding educational and recreational facilities currently available. There are a multitude of non-school related performing arts groups in the greater Portland area that are always in need of performance space. The PAC would provide cultural opportunities in our own backyard, draw nearby patrons from the surrounding area, and better position the district to host regional and statewide events – all of which would generate greater economic activity within the town. I believe it would add value to our community and lend to an improved quality of life for our residents.
